PORTALBERITA.CO.ID - PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM) has officially confirmed that there are currently no immediate plans to reintroduce their flagship three-wheeled scooter, the Yamaha Tricity, into the Indonesian domestic market. This decision stems from a thorough evaluation of the previous generation's performance when it was initially launched in the country.
The Yamaha Tricity 125, which shares its engine architecture with the popular Nmax model, was first available in Indonesia back in 2016. At that time, these specific units were imported directly into the archipelago as Completely Built Up (CBU) vehicles from Thailand.
When the Tricity was initially launched in Indonesia, its retail price point was situated around the IDR 66 million mark. This positioning placed the scooter firmly in the premium segment of the domestic scooter market during its tenure.
However, the sales figures achieved by the unique three-wheeler ultimately failed to meet the ambitious targets set by the manufacturer. This underperformance was a key factor influencing the current decision regarding its return.
As reported by BOGORPLUS.ID, the manufacturer is holding off on bringing back the model at this time. This indicates a strategic pause while the company assesses market readiness for such a niche product offering.
The previous iteration was notable for its distinctive leaning multi-wheel (LMW) technology, offering enhanced stability compared to conventional two-wheeled scooters. This feature was a major selling point upon its debut.
Despite its technological appeal and premium pricing, the market response was not robust enough to warrant an immediate reintroduction strategy. The company remains focused on existing successful product lines for the Indonesian consumer base.
"They have not yet had an agenda to re-market their flagship three-wheeled motorcycle, the Yamaha Tricity, in the domestic Indonesian market at this time," stated an official source from YIMM. This declaration solidifies the current holding pattern for the model.
The company’s focus remains on optimizing the performance of its current scooter lineup, which has proven highly successful domestically. Any future consideration for the Tricity would likely involve a substantial market re-assessment.
