PORTALBERITA.CO.ID - United Overseas Bank (UOB) confirmed major senior leadership appointments for its operations in UOB China and the UOB Hong Kong Branch on Monday, June 8, 2026, as reported by Businesstimes. These strategic adjustments are specifically designed to accelerate the bank's cross-border growth trajectory connecting Greater China and the ASEAN region.
The leadership transition will become effective on July 1, 2026, marking a significant shift in regional management. Adaline Zheng is slated to assume the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for UOB China, moving from her current position leading the UOB Hong Kong Branch.
Ms. Zheng will be replacing Peter Foo, who is retiring after completing a notable 15-year tenure serving the bank in various capacities. Concurrently, George Tung will step into the position vacated by Zheng, taking over as the CEO of the UOB Hong Kong Branch.
Mr. Tung is currently serving as the country manager for UOB's operations in South Korea, bringing extensive regional experience to his new Hong Kong leadership role. These changes underscore UOB’s commitment to enhancing its strategic positioning across these vital markets.
Wee Ee Cheong, Deputy Chairman and Group CEO of UOB, detailed the rationale behind these strategic appointments. "As the China-Asean economic linkages grow, we will continuously enhance capabilities to better support our customers’ cross-border needs while further deepening long-term client relationships. In Hong Kong, we are sharpening our role as a connector and value adder between mainland China and Asean, while strengthening our private banking and product capabilities to serve customers’ evolving wealth and investment needs," stated Wee Ee Cheong.
The group CEO further emphasized the economic significance of mainland China to the region. According to Wee Ee Cheong, mainland China continues to function as a principal driver of capital flows and trade volume directed into Southeast Asia.
Regarding the appointees, Wee Ee Cheong expressed confidence in their capabilities to navigate the next growth phase. "Adaline and George are both home-grown UOB leaders with deep regional experience. They are well-placed to lead our local franchise into its next phase of growth," added Wee Ee Cheong.
In her new capacity overseeing mainland China operations, Ms. Zheng will be responsible for driving strategic priorities and expanding crucial cross-border capabilities. She brings over two decades of banking expertise spanning both mainland China and Hong Kong, having joined UOB China in 2018 before becoming Hong Kong CEO in March 2024.
Mr. Tung brings more than thirty years of seasoned banking experience across Greater China, South Korea, and ASEAN markets to his new role. He originally joined UOB in 2010, previously leading the Wholesale Banking division for the Hong Kong Branch for a decade before managing UOB South Korea starting in 2021.
