This strategic move is specifically aimed at accommodating the rapidly increasing requirements for cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, and broader digital services across the archipelago.
What this expansion entails is the immediate launch of the STT Jakarta 2 facility, alongside the finalization of the ongoing STT Jakarta 3 centre. Furthermore, the company confirmed plans to commence construction on two brand-new facilities designated as STT Jakarta 5 and STT Jakarta 6 to further bolster capacity.
The initial operational phase of STT Jakarta 2 will contribute an IT load capacity of 24 megawatts (MW) to the campus infrastructure. This initial deployment sets the stage for subsequent significant capacity additions planned for the coming years.
The next major development stage will involve the construction of STT Jakarta 5 and STT Jakarta 6, with each facility slated to add an additional 40 MW of IT load capacity to the overall campus capability. How the company is ensuring sustainability is through a pipeline exceeding 360 MW of planned IT capacity designed to be AI-ready and environmentally responsible. As reported by Businesstimes, projections indicate that the nation’s digital economy is expected to achieve a substantial valuation of US$130 billion by the year 2026. Moreover, the total data centre capacity within Indonesia is forecast to reach approximately 2.7 gigawatts by 2030, highlighting the scale of the need.
Regarding environmental standards, the STT Jakarta 3 facility has been engineered to meet stringent energy-efficiency benchmarks. It incorporates advanced cooling systems that utilize refrigerants with a lower global warming potential, aligning its specifications with recognized green financing frameworks.
