PORTALBERITA.CO.ID - The recent surge in the price of non-subsidized gasoline, specifically Pertamax (RON 92), has reached a notable level of Rp16,250 per liter across Indonesia. This significant upward adjustment is now raising concerns regarding potential shifts in public fuel consumption habits nationwide.

This financial adjustment has immediately widened the price gap between Pertamax and the subsidized alternative, Pertalite. Previously, Pertamax was priced at Rp12,300 per liter, creating a substantial difference in consumer affordability.

The current disparity now stands at Rp6,250 per liter between the two fuel types, marking what analysts suggest is the largest historical gap between Pertamax and Pertalite prices. This substantial difference is the primary driver behind the anticipated consumer migration.

Energy experts are closely monitoring the market reaction to the new pricing structure implemented by state-owned entities. The focus is now on how consumers will respond to this increased financial burden for premium fuel.

Yayan Satyakti, an Energy Expert from Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad), offered a specific projection regarding the immediate market impact of this recent price policy. This analysis stems from studying historical patterns of fuel purchasing behavior.

"He projected that approximately 10 percent of the total existing Pertamax users will quickly decide to switch to using Pertalite as their preferred alternative," said Yayan Satyakti. This forecast suggests a notable, tangible shift in demand volume.

The core reason prompting this predicted mass migration is purely economic accessibility for the average vehicle owner. Consumers are naturally seeking the most cost-effective option available to maintain their mobility.

This trend, originating from the Bogor area and spreading nationally, highlights the sensitivity of Indonesian consumers to fluctuations in fuel prices, especially when the difference becomes so pronounced. Authorities are closely watching service stations for verification of these migration patterns.
