PORTALBERITA.CO.ID - Indian investigative bodies have significantly escalated probes targeting several corporate entities formerly under the control of former billionaire Anil Ambani, as reported by Businesstimes. The focus centers on the alleged misappropriation of approximately 20.5 billion rupees from corporate lending facilities.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) are spearheading these widening investigations across multiple fronts. These agencies are examining allegations that funds secured from banks were illicitly funneled through shell companies and associated entities to circumvent established regulatory oversight.
This intensified scrutiny has already resulted in the detention of several high-ranking former executives associated with the Ambani-led businesses. The next crucial judicial proceeding related to these ongoing cases is formally scheduled to take place on July 13.
The legal action was initially triggered after the State Bank of India (SBI) filed criminal complaints, officially classifying the accounts of Reliance Communications as fraudulent in mid-2025. This followed the insolvency proceedings initiated for Reliance Communications, alongside its affiliates, Reliance Commercial Finance and Reliance Home Finance.
Federal investigators contend that these interconnected business units are responsible for inflicting substantial financial harm, estimated at around US$8 billion in wrongful losses, upon a consortium of lenders. This debt portfolio includes significant exposure held by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC).
In response to these multi-billion dollar allegations and the ongoing legal challenges, Anil Ambani has consistently maintained his innocence regarding personal liability or direct operational involvement in the companies under investigation.
Despite the legal turmoil, Anil Ambani previously acknowledged a crucial financial intervention from his elder brother, Mukesh Ambani, who settled an outstanding liability with an equipment provider during an earlier debt crisis. This situation prompted a personal reflection from Anil Ambani.
"grateful we have moved beyond the past" said Anil Ambani, Former Billionaire.
Anil Ambani further emphasized the importance of that financial safety net within the context of his familial relationships. He specifically noted the significance of that rescue package within the framework of his family dynamics.
