This substantial dip resulted in the brand failing to secure a position among the best-selling vehicles in the archipelago nation during that specific month.
Data compiled by the Indonesian Automotive Industries Federation (Gaikindo) reveals a critical drop in the manufacturer's wholesales figures. These figures track the movement of vehicles from the factory floor to dealership lots nationwide.
As reported by Detik Oto, BYD's factory-to-dealer distribution contracted severely in May 2026. The total number of units distributed reached a mere 895 vehicles for the month under review.
This figure presents a stark contrast when compared to the previous month's performance, where BYD successfully moved a much healthier volume of 4,625 units to its Indonesian dealer network.
Furthermore, the trend of declining sales was equally evident in the retail sector, reflecting lower customer uptake across the country. Retail sales data indicated a notable softening of demand for BYD models.
BYD's recorded retail sales for May 2026 amounted to 2,892 units nationally. This represents a significant regression from the robust figure achieved in April, which stood at 4,625 units.
A key contributing factor cited for this sharp decline appears to be the operational status or output from BYD's newly established manufacturing facility located in Subang. The production challenges at this site are widely considered the root cause of the decreased supply.
"The distribution wholesales of BYD from the factory to the dealer experienced a sharp contraction, reaching only 895 units in May 2026," according to data cited by Detik Oto.
