PORTALBERITA.CO.ID - PT BYD Motor Indonesia has officially responded to public scrutiny regarding a significant accumulation of company containers observed at the Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta. This clarification was necessary to address growing speculation surrounding the volume of imported cargo currently awaiting processing at the busy port facility.
The central issue addressed by the automaker concerns the nature of the goods within these containers, which has led to public concern over potential inventory hoarding. BYD emphasized that the contents are strictly related to their local manufacturing operations within Indonesia.
Specifically, the company stated unequivocally that the containers do not house fully assembled vehicles ready for immediate sale on the domestic market. Instead, the cargo consists primarily of necessary components and spare parts designated for the vehicle assembly process.
This clarification was issued following widespread public attention focused on numerous imported containers reportedly stalled within the port area, raising questions about supply chain dynamics. BYD sought to preemptively counter narratives suggesting deliberate inventory stockpiling practices.
As reported by PT BYD Motor Indonesia, the delay in container movement is not attributable to intentional staging or hoarding by the company. Rather, the backlog is a consequence of external operational constraints impacting standard logistics procedures at the port.
Luther Panjaitan, who serves as the Head of Marketing PR and Government Relations for PT BYD Motor Indonesia, detailed the steps taken by the management to investigate the situation thoroughly. The company undertook a comprehensive data verification process concerning their shipments.
"The management conducted a thorough data check on Friday (19/6/2026)," stated Luther Panjaitan. This internal audit aimed to accurately ascertain the volume and contents of their specific shipments amidst the broader port congestion reports.
Luther Panjaitan further clarified the relative scale of BYD’s holdings within the larger context of the port’s issues. "The results of the check showed that BYD's containers only constitute a small fraction of the total container volume that has drawn public attention," said Luther Panjaitan.
According to Luther Panjaitan, this verification confirms that while BYD containers are present, they are a minor factor when assessing the overall congestion issues currently facing the port infrastructure. The company remains committed to transparent communication regarding its supply chain activities.
