PORTALBERITA.CO.ID - The National Basketball Coaches Association (NBCA) formally announced on June 5, 2026, that veteran coach Paul Westhead is the recipient of the prestigious 2026 Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award. This recognition honors his extensive and influential career spanning nearly four decades across multiple professional and collegiate basketball leagues.
Westhead holds a unique place in basketball history as the only head coach to secure both an NBA title and a WNBA championship. His NBA victory came with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1980, followed by a WNBA title with the Phoenix Mercury in 2007.
The celebrated coach built his reputation by developing and implementing the fast-paced, high-scoring "run-and-gun" offensive system. His coaching resume includes leadership roles with the NBA's Chicago Bulls and Denver Nuggets, alongside significant tenures at the collegiate level at institutions like La Salle, Loyola Marymount, George Mason, and Oregon.
J.B. Bickerstaff, the current head coach of the Detroit Pistons and President of the NBCA, expressed the organization's deep respect for Westhead's enduring contributions.
