PORTALBERITA.CO.ID - Apple officially unveiled its strategy to aggressively compete in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence landscape during its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). The company presented a new generation of operating systems, including iOS 27 and macOS 27 Golden Gate, all centered around a completely revamped virtual assistant.
The centerpiece of these new software releases is the "Siri AI," designed to offer superior intelligence, enhanced reliability, and the ability to deeply understand user context across various applications. This unveiling, which occurred during the keynote presentation on Monday, June 8, marks a crucial inflection point for the technology giant.
As reported by Businesstimes, this launch follows a period where Apple struggled to deliver on the ambitious promises made when it first debuted its Apple Intelligence platform back in 2024. Several key features were delayed or ultimately performed less impressively than offerings from competitors like Google and OpenAI.
Industry analysis suggests this event was a critical evaluation point for the company’s technological direction. "WWDC 2026 is Apple’s AI credibility test," noted IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo. "Apple does not need to win AI by having the biggest model or the loudest demo. It needs to make AI trusted, useful and invisible across the ecosystem," he added.
Despite the presentation, investor confidence showed immediate signs of weakness, as Apple's stock experienced a decline during Monday's trading session, closing down 1.9 percent at US$301.54 on the Nasdaq. The company also provided a cautious timeline for the rollout of its new technologies.
Siri AI will initially launch only in English and will carry a beta designation when it becomes available to consumers in the autumn of 2026, with initial restrictions excluding markets like China and the European Union. The rebuilt Siri will integrate personal data access, web information, and on-screen content, functionalities that were initially anticipated much earlier, around 2025.
The presentation served dual purposes: addressing past development shortcomings while establishing a foundation for future AI-dependent hardware and software. Siri AI has been physically redesigned, now integrating into the iPhone’s Dynamic Island and gaining its first dedicated application and chatbot interface.
Mike Rockwell, the executive overseeing Siri engineering, showcased demonstrations of the assistant managing tasks like retrieving concert details, controlling music playback, and setting reminders, intended to prove the system’s improved dependability over previous iterations. Beyond the assistant, Apple introduced new AI features for photo editing and writing assistance, powered by next-generation Apple Foundation Models rebuilt utilizing Google Gemini technology.
Looking ahead, the immediate impact is expected to drive hardware upgrades, beginning this fall with the introduction of the first foldable iPhone and the iPhone 18 Pro, both heavily marketed around these new AI capabilities. According to IDC’s Nabila Popal, "The features will be a massive catalyst for iPhone 14 and older users to upgrade, especially those that might have been considering delaying purchase due to inflationary pressures or economic uncertainty."
